General FAQ’s

Have questions about counselling and psychotherapy, how it works or what to expect? Find answers to some of the most common questions, or explore the full FAQ for more information.

What does the first session look like?2026-10-01T14:25:49+00:00

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin understanding what has brought you to therapy, what is happening in your life and what you would like to work on. There is no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what you need or where to begin. We start with what feels most relevant to you.

Do you offer telehealth?2026-10-01T14:26:40+00:00

Yes. Therapy is available via telehealth as well as face-to-face, depending on your needs and location.

Who do you work with?2026-09-28T23:24:31+00:00

I work primarily with adults from a wide range of backgrounds and life circumstances. I also have a particular interest in working with men and men’s mental health.

What can we work on?2026-10-01T14:26:16+00:00

People come to therapy for many different reasons, including anxiety, depression, loneliness and isolation, relationships, anger, stress, grief and loss, addiction, motivation, meaning and purpose, values, self-awareness, life changes and workplace pressures.

Do I need a referral?2026-10-01T14:27:17+00:00

No. You do not need a referral to make an appointment and can contact me directly to discuss therapy or arrange a session. Medicare rebates do not apply.

What if I am not sure whether therapy is right for me?2026-10-01T14:27:55+00:00

I offer a complimentary 15-minute initial phone call where we can briefly discuss what you are looking for, answer any initial questions and consider whether working together may be a good fit.

Can you work alongside our existing EAP or workplace mental health services?2026-09-20T15:00:30+00:00

Yes. Workplace mental health services can complement your existing EAP and internal supports rather than replace them. This can provide a more targeted, practitioner-led option for a particular workforce, group or identified need.

Do you provide tailored workplace mental health programs?2026-10-01T14:28:39+00:00

Yes. I design and deliver bespoke workplace mental health programs based on the needs of the organisation and its people. While I have particular experience and expertise in men’s mental health and wellbeing, programs can be tailored to the needs of the organisation and its workforce, regardless of gender.

Workplace services can also include individual employee counselling and psychotherapy and practical mental health consultation for managers.

Is therapy private and confidential?2026-10-01T13:49:21+00:00

Yes. Therapy provides a private and confidential space to talk openly, explore what you are experiencing and work through things that may be difficult to discuss elsewhere.

Confidentiality is subject to some legal and ethical limits, including concerns about serious risk of harm, mandatory reporting requirements and legal processes such as subpoenas or court orders. Where possible, I will discuss these circumstances with you before information is disclosed.
